It is not the design of this book to open the subject of secession. The subjugation of the Southern States, and their acceptance of the terms dictated by the North, may, if the reader please, be considered as having shifted the Federal Government from the basis of compact to that of conquest; and thereby extinguished every claim to the right of secession for the future. Not one word in the following pages will at least be found to clash with that supposition or opinion. The sole object of this work is to discuss the right of secession with reference to the past; in order to vindicate the character of the South for loyalty, and to yipe off the charges of treason and rebellion from the names and memories of Jefferson Davis, Stonewall Jackson, Albert Sydney Johnston Eobert E. Lee, and of all who have fought or suffered in the great war of coercion. A dmitting, then, that the right of secession no longer exists; the present work aims to show, that, however those illustrious heroes may have been aspersed by the ignorance, the prejudices, and the passions of the hour, they were, nevertheless, perfectly loyal to truth, justice.

Is Davis a Traitor Or Was Secession a Constitutional Right Previous to the War Classic Reprint Albert Taylor Bledsoe Books

This book was written and printed right after the War Between the States. Why haven't we known about it before now? The history taught in our government schools sure was written by the winner. This book proves it. I often wondered why Jefferson Davis kept asking for a trial while he was in prison. This book explains why the Republican winners could not allow Davis to go to trial! Had there been a trial, the awful truth would have made northern American men angry and ashamed for being so deceived. They would have known about the Marxist Germans who brought their Communist Manifesto with them when they poured into our country after losing their revolution in Europe. Because of the truths published in this book while Davis was still in prison, he was never tried and was freed. The government knew it couldn't win in a fair trial. Read this book and you will know the truth. You will laugh at how Albert Bledsoe exposes the lies of the conceited Webster and beats him at his own 'word' game. Albert Bledsoe may not have written a dictionary, but he sure knew how to use words to tell the truth and beat the socks off of Webster! Great Book!

Excellent argument for the right of secession. Another book to read is A Constitutional History of Secession by John R. Graham.
He was not and the reluctance to prosecute proves it.
Excellent
Good book, subject matter dry but I knew this before I bought it. Fast delivery
good book, but too wordy. Arguments could have been more succinct. Fundamental understanding to why the confederacy was legally correct.
